Tyto alba (Scopoli, 1769) - Pe軻li Baykuş [TR], Barn Owl [EN], with local vernacular name "İnsan Kuşu (Human Bird)", is one of the widest ranged terrestrial birds. It ranges in all continent except for Antarctica. It is single species of the family Tytonidae in Western Palaearctic. It has long leg and white ventral side. Other owls in the region belong to the family Strigidae, typical owls.
It feeds on especially small mammals, including bats.
This owl is the most common owl species in Cyprus. Especially near Lefkoşa (Nicosia), it is very common. We saw at 16 individuals at least for two hours of tonignt. Even if four individuals roosted on one small olive tree.

This was taken along road near Lefkoşa-Ercan Airport of K.K.T.C. (T.R.N.C.) by help of Barış Saydam (buzzard) from Girne (Krenia). Many thanks again Barış.
Also Mustafa Szen (
spalaxtr) who is one of my best friends and today returned to Zonguldak Province of Trkiye, likes very much to take photographs of this species.
So, I dedicate this shot to both of Barış and Mustafa.
