This is a capture from Achill island on a beautiful evening in early June as I camped down the west coast of Ireland. I was shooting into the sun here so exposure was very tricky but I wanted to capture that lovely bay. Do you see that hill in the background well its more like a mountain. It took me over an hour to scale that and when I did the light had gone. I did notice up there a wild fox hunting for eggs on the steep cliffs and I tried i vain to capture him on camera....Anyhow this is Keem bay.

Keem Bay is a perfect horseshoe bay containing a popular Blue Flag beach at the head of a valley between the cliffs of Benmore to the west and Croaghaun mountain on the east. At the southern end of the valley, the beach is sheltered to the west by Moyteoge Head, while at the northwestern end of the valley the cliffs of Benmore connect with the spectacular mile long promontory of Achill Head. This spar is the most westerly point on Achill and tails off with two sea stacks called Gao Saggart and Carrickakin.

Nice picture. The lighting is correct. Your use of the filter must have help you a lot. Like you said, a tricky picture to take. POV is very good, also a good DOF. You have a lot of elements that gives deept to the picture. I also like the top and bottom banner.

TFS ! PC :)

Well it sure looks to me like you got the exposure right on, and perfect depth of focus too . Nice to have a simple focal point. I guess it is pretty obvious what she's been up to. Maybe that's why she's hiding out all be herself. : )

Bonjour Stephen

Stephen

seems you have the corner on Ireland and Irish landscapes. Another great scene, though it is a real shame you can't control sheep. PS I like the blue on the sheep, it tells me its a her! (other than horns etc) I think I woudl have had her move to the right a touch more personally!

Another great composition which looks like you were almost shooting directly into sun...

TFS
Emma

Hello, nice landscape with a great light!
Lovely composition overall.

Andrea

Hi Stephen,
Looks like the sheep gets a lot of attention. It is a strong focal point, but the real beauty, in my eyes, is the bay and its beach. That is where I want to go to and then also visit the row of houses and the gorge on the left of it. You see, I am trying to look past the sheep and toward the real beauty. The colors in this photo are really stunning and reminds me of the two times I visited Ireland. What do you mean with to scale the mountain?

Excellent work on the exposure, considering the angle of the sun.

TFS,
Niek

great picture man. the presense of sheep takes attention away from, something which is much more beautiful. hope i am right
take care
raman

Hi Steve,
This is fantastic, the sheep adds so much to this image, a sense of scale, life in the wilderness. A very artistic composition too, the sheep is perfectly placed in the frame. All the other stuff we expect from you is there :-) Great exposure, superb detail throughout and great light and colour. Excellent shot.
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi Stephen,
What a great view and composition. No need of a fox to make it great but I can understand your deception. I love the light and shadow in this picture. POV, DOF are just perfect. What else to say... TFS,
Claudine

Lovely shot of the bay Steve, thanx.
Excellent light and color..What's that blue I see on the sheep's upper body? It looks un-natural somehow..
Sounds like ya got a nice workout trompin' about there :)
Very well done.

This shot is baaad (in the hip use of the term)! Where did I see a story where a guy comes back from the toilet with blue all over himself? This shot makes me think of that. Personally I would recommend cloning out that taacky blue and replacing it with a color that will be really add to the palette here, maybe a nice yellow or orange. Or maybe tiger stripes ;-)

Good scene Stephen. Very good light and perfect composition. I searched for such nice horseshoe bays when I was in Devon and Cornwall the past couple of weeks, but didn't really find such a nice one. TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Killer shot! I love the sheep in the landscape shot. It really makes for a nice composition. The lighting and shadows are also perfect. Very nice work! TFS!
