|ringtail possums have a life expectancy of 5 years. they are marsupials, like most australian mammals (most famous are kangaroos), and carry their babies in a pouch on the stomach. her fur is like silk to touch.|
this ringtail is 6 years, and had 2-3 babies each year. this is the first time i saw her in daylight. she has an opposing thumb on each limb, which makes her an incredibly balanced climber. a sensitive nose for finding flowers and fruit. the saucer eyes are for night vision only. she would be blinded here and relying on her nose.
her body is around 30cm, with 30cm tail.
she was very ill with age and gangerine, which was why she ventured out in daylight to take food. you can see between her nose and her tail, a pink and black part. that is the gangerene in the end of her tail. i took her to the veternarian immediately after this photo, and sadly said goodbye.
for the purposes of tn, she is not domestic, but came into the garden for food, therefore wild.
