Blue Whistling Thrush

|This bird normally lives in the Himalayan valleys and migrates to lower altitude during winters. This one is here in Jammu these days and gives me a wake-up call early in the morning when it perches on my roof for a moment and gives out shrill but loud calls. Today afternoon when I was climbing the stairs to my first floor apartment after my day's work in the school, I got lucky when I saw it on the roof of the next house. I immediately pulled out my compact camera I always carry with me and took a few hurried shots. This one turned out to be okay when it hopped on to a concrete projection at the rear of the next house.|
The blue whistling thrush (Myophonus caeruleus) is a whistling thrush present in the mountains of Central Asia, China and Southeast Asia. It is known for its loud human-like whistling song at dawn and dusk. The widely distributed populations show variations in size and plumage with several of them considered as subspecies. Like others in the genus, they feed on the ground, often along streams and in damp places foraging for snails, crabs, fruits and insects.
