Take - Off
Reed Cormorant

I have captured this picture of Reed Cormorant at Marieval Bird Sanctuary, early in the morning.

Take - Off is one of the most energetically demanding aspects of flight, as the bird must generate enough air flow across the wing to create lift. Small birds do this with a simple upward jump. That does not work for larger birds, which must take a run up to generate sufficient airflow. Large birds take off by facing into the wind, or, if they can, by perching on a branch or cliff so they can just drop off into the air.

HI Srikumar, fantastic V made by the wings of the cormorant in the take-off moment. Great timing and lovely effect of the in flight drops too. Great light too that warm up the colors in the best way. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Skrumar,
you get even better! Here there is action, flying and swimming. And the light, the droplets ...
Best regards, Dietrich

I'm back after a winter when there was virtually nothing to photograph, and good to see you still active. Very interesting shot. The wings attract attention immediately and then the unusual coloring of the eye and beak are well shown and would make it easy to identify the species from your photograph.

Hi Srikumar
Very nice shot, great moment.
Best regards,
Jorge

Hi Sri,
Landing off is a challenge not only for the birds, but for the photographer also, as you have to capture the motion with excellent timing to make a really spectacular photo. Like you did now, when the wings are forming a V and are immediately gaining attention, even from the thumbnail view. Perfect foreground usage also with holding just the optimal space when cropping. Shutter speed was so well chosen that even the waterdroplets are sharp. Mesmerizing work, hats off for you!
Kind regards from Ireland, Laszlo
